Nina Galitz

GRAYSLAKE, Ill.- A celebration of life was held Saturday, at Community Christian Church, 1970 Riverwoods Rd., Lincolnshire, for Nina Ann Galitz, 75, Grayslake, who died peacefully on Thursday, May 2, 2019, at her home, surrounded by her family.

All funeral arrangements were entrusted by Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium, 410 E. Belvidere Rd., Grayslake, IL 60030.

Survivors include her husband, Jeff Galitz, of the home; a daughter, Tracey Galitz, Kenosha, Wisc. and a son, Brent Galitz, Ingleside and her siblings, Dave, John and Bob Gastel and Mary Gastel-Passmore.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth (Gastel) Nowlin, in April 2001.








Mrs. Galitz was born Dec. 31, 1943, in Lamar, Mo., to Gene and Dorothy (Andrews) Gastel. She was the second of six children and was reared on the family century farm. She graduated from Eastern New Mexico University with a Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education and taught three years in Fountain Valley School District, located in Los Angeles, Calif., and lived on Balboa Island and spent summers in New York City. She retired from American Airlines after 49 years as a flight attendant, including international flying for 35 plus years. She was an avid volunteer at St. Bart’s Soup Kitchen for over 20 years and they loved her there.

She was a mother of two and friend to all who knew her.

She met the love of her life, Jeff Galitz during the fall of 1968 and they married in Chicago in June of 1969.
