Mary Ellen Headlee, age 98, Joplin, passed away at 9:42 a.m. Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at Freeman West Hospital.
Mary was born March 30, 1921 in Welch, Oklahoma and had lived in the Joplin area most of her life.
A homemaker, Mary had worked at the former Newman's Department Store and sold real estate for several years.
Her true passion was in the antique world. She operated Headlee Antiques in Joplin for many years. She also owned Hilltop Antiques for several years and spent countless hours visiting other antique shops, refurbishing items for resale.
Mary enjoyed traveling and taking bus trips with her banking friends. Following the death of her husband, Russell, Mary joined a singles club and became a friend to others who cherished her words of wisdom. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Survivors include two sons, Robert Headlee and wife, Judy, Joplin, Dr. Stephen Headlee, Asheboro, North Carolina; two grandchildren, Heather Headlee, Springfield, Adam Headlee and wife, Jennifer, Severance, Colorado; and a cousin, Pam Noland and husband, John, Fort Myers, Florida.
A memorial visitation is planned for Saturday from 1-3:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary. A private family burial will take place at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date.
Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
