Mazen Akram Malas, age 65, Joplin, passed away on Friday, May 3, 2019 at St. John's Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Mazen was born September 9, 1953 in Damascus, Syria, one of nine children born to the late Akram Malas and Fatimah Alquwass Malas. He grew up in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and in Beirut, Lebanon, and moved to New York City, New York at the age of 21 in 1975. He later moved to Miami, Oklahoma where he attended NEO. He worked for years at different manufacturing companies in the Joplin area, retiring in 2018 as a line supervisor. Mazen was crazy about the Dallas Cowboys, Jennifer Lopez and Shania Twain. He enjoyed his beer and whiskey. He always believed in God and loved his family and friends.
Survivors include his son, Samer Malas of Joplin; stepdaughters, Melisa Zaerr of Carthage, Missouri, and Christy Zaerr; grandchildren, Mercedes Rose, Jayce Malas, McKenzie Rose, Kaitlee James, and Saint Malas; brother, Ayman Malas of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and several brothers and sisters; several nieces and nephews including Sarah Malas of Tulsa.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 8, 2019 from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
