Carol Riker

Carol Ann (Vestal) Riker, age 73, went home to be with Jesus, Thursday morning, May 23, 2019. Carol was born September 22, 1945 to the late Benjamin Robert and "Mickie" Bertha Maxine (Walker) Vestal, in Oakley, Kansas.

She married Joe Riker in Oakley on November 18, 1961, making their home in the Columbus area. He preceded her in death in 2016. 

Carol spent most of her life as a homemaker, also working for Ace Electric for a while. She was a firm believer in Jesus Christ and was a member of a local Women's Bible Study Group for the last five years. She was the President of the VFW Women's Auxiliary in Columbus for several years. Her family remembers that she was the most amazing cook there ever was; and that everyone loved to eat the foods she made. 

Her family meant the world to her.Survivors include 5 children, Deanna and Leroy Christiansen of Columbus, KS; Rhonda and Tom Reid of Carl Junction, MO; Julia Riker of Joplin, MO; Alycia and David Johnston of Branson, MO; and Joby and Tasha Riker of Columbus, KS; grandchildren, Nic and Linseh Johnson of Oswego, KS; Adrian Woods of Oklahoma City, OK; Eli and Keasley Johnston of Hartford, TN, Adam Johnston of Branson, MO, Isaac Johnston of Branson, MO; Brian and Jennifer Reid of Columbus, KS; Jeremy Hart of Joplin, MO; Alyssa CaƱate of Frisco, TX; Gage Riker and Charley Riker of Columbus, KS; foreign exchange students, Nina, Lina, and Jasmine of Germany and Sweden; foster daughter Amanda King; great-grandchildren, Andelyn and Lander Johnson of Oswego; Madalyne, Monica, and Cooper Reid of Columbus; Sawyer Johnston of Branson, MO; and Huxley Johnston of Hartford, TN, as well as many cousins and friends. 









Carol is also survived by siblings Verlene Showalter of Meraux, LA; Pat Bell of Nixa, MO; GaryVestal of Leoti, KS.

Carol was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, a daughter, Jena Marie Riker (10-18-1965), and siblings: Robert, Peggy, Bo, and Lavona.Cremation arrangements are being handled through Derfelt Funeral Home of Columbus, KS. 

The family will host a graveside service Tuesday, May 28, at Park Cemetery Pavillion at 10 AM.Gary Yurk will officiate, and grandson Eli Johnston will sing and play the guitar.
