Dolores “Janean” Thompson Garrett, 77, Joplin, MO passed away on Wednesday, May 8, 2019, at KU Medical Center in Kansas City, KS following a brief illness. She was born November 24, 1941 in Bowling Green, IN to Norl E. “Tommy” Thompson and Eva Ellen Price Thompson.
While in the 10th grade, Janean moved with her family to Nevada. She graduated from Nevada High School in 1959. Jeanean was a graduate of Cottey College and the University of Missouri in Columbia. She received her Masters of Library Science at the University of Illinois at Champagne-Urbana. Jeanean worked as a librarian throughout the years while living in many locations all over the world. Jeanean retired as a Senior Medical Research Librarian from the Veterans Administration in San Antonio, TX before moving back to Joplin, MO to be closer to family where she has resided for the past 10 years.
Survivors include: two sisters, Janell (Thompson) Dimond and her husband Mike, Laurie, MO, and Norlene (Thompson) Hillier and her husband Don, Springfield, MO; one brother, Dale Thompson, Alba, MO; and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her beloved guide dog Freland and her close friend Phyllis Seesengood. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Patricia “Patty” Crawford and Eva Thompson.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 15, 2019, at Moore Cemetery in Nevada with Pastor Sharon Freeman officiating. Friends may call now and until one hour prior to the service at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada.
