Irenea Mae Smith, age 64, a 20-year resident of Jasper, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, May 8, 2019, at Freeman Hospital West in Joplin.
Irenea was born December 23, 1954, in Carthage, Missouri, one of seven children born to the union of the late Jack and Doris (Silvers) Ogle. She attended Carthage schools. On March 29, 1972, Irenea was united in marriage to John Smith and together they shared 47 years of marriage. Irenea worked outside of the home for a short time at Dollar General in Carthage, but she made most of her career as a homemaker, raising her five children. She enjoyed a bargain and loved visiting the flea markets and going to garage sales. She loved the outdoors and enjoyed spending time floating on the river and riding motorcycles. Above all, she loved her family, especially her grandchildren, and wanted to spend as much time with them as possible. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Irenea is survived by her husband, John Smith, of Jasper, Missouri; her children, Shannon Smith (Michelle) of Joplin, Kevin Smith of Sarcoxie, Kim Smith of Jasper, Levi Smith of Sarcoxie and Candice Smith (Rebecca) of Joplin; four grandchildren, Britany Smith (Amanda), Matheu Smith, Daived Smith (Savana) and Teresa Smith (Ray); six great-grandchildren, Brayden, Kinsley, Kaison, Maileey, Corbin and James; her siblings, John, Becky, Tom, Robin, Jason and Jona; as well as a host of extended family and friends.
Irenea’s wishes were to be cremated and no formal services will be held at this time.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
