Ruth Hailey

Ruth Hailey, age 73, of Mt. Vernon, Missouri, passed away at 9:47 p.m. on Wednesday, May 15, 2019, at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. She was born May 22, 1945, in Neelyville, Missouri, the daughter of Raymond and Lula Carrie (Johnson) Pennington.

Ruth was a cotton picker from the bootheel and grew up in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. She was a homemaker, business owner, member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Mt. Vernon and loved her family and grandchildren.

On November 6, 1970, she married John Hailey, in Miami, Oklahoma.

Ruth is survived by her husband of 48 years, John; three daughters, Carrie Sapp, of Wentworth, Missouri, Gina Van Hooser and her husband, Ron, of Azle, Texas and Mary Ruth Donceel of Mt. Vernon; one son, John Hailey, Jr. and Cindy Bratcher, of Mt. Vernon; one sister, Mary Garrett, of Mt. Vernon; three brothers, Bob Pennington and his wife, Tippy, of Mt. Vernon, Dale Pennington and his wife, Cindy, of Wentworth, Missouri and Harold Hendrix of Seattle, Washington; eight grandchildren and16 great-grandchildren.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Lula; three brothers, Archie Pennington, Fred Willis Hendrix and Bill Hendrix, son-in-law, Clay Sapp and two grandsons, Kevin Stafford and Sam Sapp.

A celebration of Ruth’s life will be held from 1:00-4:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 9, 2019, at the American Legion Hall in Mt. Vernon. A private family burial will be held at a later date at the Mt. Vernon IOOF Cemetery. Online condolences may be shared at www.FossettMosherFuneralHome.com.
