Lela Madeline Best, age 89, of Joplin, MO passed away Monday afternoon, May 13, 2019.
Lela was born March 7, 1930 to the late Aaron Milton and Lela Vivian (Moore) Kennedy, in Hallowell, Kansas. She attended elementary school in Hallowell, and later graduated from Columbus Community High School.
She made her life as a homemaker after marrying Floyd Best, who preceded her in death March 10, 2010. Lela was a member of the Merry Mothers Club; and most enjoyed her grandchildren, going to the lake, and sewing. She made many of her own clothes, along with clothes for her family.
Surviving Lela are one son, Rodney Best of Joplin, MO; one daughter, Donna Comer (husband Wayne) of Webb City, MO; two grand daughters, Marilla E. Best of Indianola, IA and Amy Michelle Byers (husband Roger) of Ogden, KS; and one great grandson Carson Alexander Wayne Byers. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant brother, and three sisters: Norma Wiseman, Colleen Gage, and Ada Fewen.
Graveside services are under the direction of Derfelt Funeral Home of Columbus, KS, and will be held at Greenlawn Cemetery at the Pavillion, Friday, May 17, 2019, at 2:00 PM. Justin Coberly will officiate. Online condolences may be left at derfeltfuneralhomes.com.
