Velma Martin

Velma L. Martin, 91, of Joplin, passed away December 6, 2020 in the comfort of her home.

Velma was born December 15, 1928 in Joplin, one of six children born to the union of the late Auty and Pearl (Trease) Bybee. 

 She was united in marriage to John T. Martin, Sr. and together they had two children, John Jr. and Erma. Velma worked for Joplin Supply for over 30 years, retiring in 1992.








Velma was a good cook and loved spending time with her family. She especially loved children and animals. Velma had a gentle spirit and a generous heart. She will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents, Velma was preceded in death by her husband; her daughter and son-in-law, Erma and Michael Hoag; and all of her siblings.

She is survived by her son, John Martin, Jr. (Diana) of Seneca; four grandchildren, Kim Hoag-Endicott of Joplin; Christa Hoag (Micky) of Joplin; Amber Langley (Will) of Miami and Cory Bass of California; three great-grandchildren, Brendan Hoag (Currin), Halie Endicott, and Rylan Stuart; one great-great-grandson, Brayden Hoag; as well as a host of extended family and friends.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery in Joplin with Pastor David Frazier officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Joplin Humane Society in support of Velma’s love for animals.

Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
