(From Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home)Jane Becker, 87, of Chetopa, passed away the evening of Saturday, February 5, 2022, at her home.
Jane Louise Elmore was born on October 7, 1934, to George Irwin and Ruth Augusta (Pinney) Elmore in Omaha, Nebraska. She grew up and attended school in Omaha, where she graduated from high school.
On February 8, 1957, Jane and George F. Becker were united in marriage in Omaha. The couple lived in Chicago, Illinois; Fairbanks, Alaska; Albuquerque, New Mexico; and Puerto Rico, before settling in Chetopa in 1967. The couple owned and operated a 3-D magnetic sign business for a number of years. She also earned an Associate’s Degree in Theatre from Labette Community College.
She was member of Faith Victory Church in Chetopa. A lover of the arts, Jane was involved in the theatre program at LCC, and enjoyed the hobbies of woodcarving and painting. Her greatest joy, passion and lasting impact came through her talent of singing. Jane loved singing Bass harmony with her beloved choruses and quartets. She recently received a 20-year pin as a member of Sweet Adelines International and active member of Show-Me harmony chorus in Joplin, Missouri. She had also sung with Queen City Sound in Springfield, Missouri. Both are award-winning chapters of Sweet Adelines International. Through the years, Jane also made memories and lasting friendships singing Bass in several acapella barbershop harmony quartets. She was a long-time member singing tenor in Keenagers, a community chorus for senior citizens in Riverton, Kansas, making many lasting friendships.
Survivors include:
One son – Dan Becker and his wife, Teresa, of Lee’s Summit, Missouri
Daughter-in-law – Kelly Becker
Four grandchildren – Bryan Becker and his wife, Jenna; Jeff Becker and his wife, Nikki; Albert Becker; and Eric Becker
Two great-grandchildren – Mason Becker and Stevie Becker
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Becker; two sons, Steve Becker in October 2021, and Wayne Becker in 1972; and one brother, David Elmore in August 2020.
There will be a Memorial Service at 2:00 p.m., Friday, February 18, 2022, at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home of Chetopa.
