(From Parker Mortuary)Mary Ann Edwards, age 91, Joplin, MO passed away Wednesday, February 11 at Freeman West surrounded by her family from a brief illness. She was born September 7, 1930, in Salina, KS to Clarence W. Moore and Mildred Edna Dowley Moore.
Mary Ann moved to Joplin at a young age where she attended Joplin schools graduating from Joplin High School in 1948 and then attended Joplin Junior College. While in high school she met the love of her life, Galen R. Edwards. They were married on June 24, 1951, at First Community Church, Joplin.
She survived by her husband of 70 years, Galen of the home, her sister Rhea Cooper, Joplin, and their three daughters, Gayle L. Swayer, Joplin, Karen Mattes, husband Chuck, Joplin and Katherine “Susie” Edwards, Overland Park, KS. Grandchildren Erin Vermillion, husband David, Joplin, Meghan Renfro, husband Luke, Diamond, MO, and David Mattes, wife Brittney, Joplin. Great grandchildren, Dawson, Hunter, Tucker, Colin, Avery, Landen, Ian, Kale and Nolan and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, and sisters Lyla Gene Harter and Georgia Lee Druit.
Mary Ann worked at Junge Baking Company as a secretary before raising her family. She then volunteered countless hours at First Community Church serving on committees, teaching Sunday school and the Annual Christmas Dinner and Crosslines Ministries, as well as over 25 years with Freeman Health System Auxiliary.
The family will receive friends at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 15, 2022, at Thornhill Dillon Mortuary with the services to follow at 3:00 p.m.
