Joy Ann Day

Joy Anise (Smith) Day, 80 of Loma Linda, Missouri, formerly of Dixon, Missouri, entered into rest on February 9, 2022 in the comfort of her home, surrounded by her loving family. 

She was born March 12, 1941 in Bellflower, Missouri, to Eldie and Emmajane (Firkins) Smith and was affectionately known to most of her friends as Joy Ann.









She attended school in Bellflower, Missouri and then later Troy, Missouri, graduating High School from the Bible School in Independence, Kansas. Joy earned her Bachelors of Art Degree in Languages, including English, French and Russian from Pitt State University in Pittsburg, Kansas and was certified in library sciences. She also went on and achieved a Masters degree in counseling from the University of MO in Columbia, Missouri. 

Her first teaching job was at the Cherryvale High School in Kansas. She also taught at the Independence Bible School in Kansas as well as the Hobe Sound Bible College & Academy where she served as a librarian at both. Joy was also a librarian at the Carthage Public Library in Carthage, Missouri for some time. She was an educator, counselor, pastor’s wife, mother and gracious hostess throughout her lifetime.

On June 6, 1970, in Independence, Kansas, Joy and Carrell Day were united in marriage. Once she became a mother in 1982, she opted to become a homemaker and stay at home mother, homeschooling her children through almost all of their school years. She enjoyed playing the piano and singing, reading, being with her grandchildren and being a good friend and confidant to many. She was a member of the Bible Holiness church.

Joy’s husband Carrell survives the home. In addition to her husband of 51 years, she is survived by her two daughters, Emily LaRose and husband, Thomas of Mt. Vernon, Missouri and Evangeline Kiser and husband, Seth of Joplin; six grandchildren and a brother, Paul Wesley Smith and his wife Alta of Independence, Kansas. She is preceded in death by her parents and one grandson, Michael Day.
