Ken Lovett

Kenneth B. Lovett, age 82, Joplin, Missouri, passed away peacefully at his home on February 9, 2022.

Ken was born October 2, 1939, in Washington, D.C., to Herman and Frances Lovett.








He grew up in Daytona Beach, FL, where he graduated from Seabreeze High School with the Class of 1958. He served in the United States Navy which took him to naval ports around the world. He then attended Daytona State College, moving on to the University of Florida, where he became a devoted Gators fan. 

While in college, Ken began a career in the grocery industry, starting with Publix Supermarkets in Florida, eventually becoming an owner-operator of a Piggly-Wiggly in South Carolina. He moved to Joplin in 1982 to become President and General Manager of Farm Fresh Supermarkets. The industry had taken him to many places throughout the Southeast and Midwest, but eventually, Ken settled in Joplin, where he spent the remainder of his life. 

Ken was an avid sports fan especially when it came to golf, basketball, and football and throughout his years, he always remained loyal to his beloved Florida Gators. Ken was a generous, loving, and proud father, grandfather, great-grandfather. He was a well-known member of the community, who enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

Ken married Marlos Marquardt on March 28, 1983, in Miami, Oklahoma, and she preceded him in death on June 4, 2018. He was also preceded in death by his parents, two daughters, Kathy Lovett and Teresa Hoffman.

He is survived by two sons, Kenny Lovett and fiancé Karen Montgomery, Lake Toxaway, North Carolina; Keith Lovett and wife Stacy, Brevard, North Carolina; three daughters, Kristy Somerton, Port Orange, Florida, Pamela Sharp and husband Todd, Wentzville, Missouri; Carrie Weiser and husband Josh, The Woodlands, Texas; grandchildren, Korey Lovett, Kelsey Lovett, Kody Lovett, Kayla Lovett, Kyliegh Somerton, Cole Somerton, Kyle Lovett, Kaitlin Lovett, Misty Chiu and husband Steven, Devon Sharp, Nicholas Sharp, Nathan England, Megan Sichts, Jackson Weiser; and great grandchildren, Ella, Grayson, Cooper, Hazel, Hailey, Rhys, and one on the way, John Henry.

Memorial visitation will be 2:00 to 4:00 pm Thursday February 17, 2022, at Mason-Woodard Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
