(From Parker Mortuary)Errol “Skip” Veron Calvert, age 82, of Oronogo, passed away on Monday, May 1, 2023, at Mercy Hospital in Joplin.
Errol, son of the late Elmo and Betty (McDonald) Calvert, was born on July 5, 1940, in Fort Scott, KS. At 17, he enlisted in the United States Navy.
After returning home, Errol worked as a mechanic until relocating to Galveston, TX. During his time in Galveston, Errol was employed with Car Parts & Equipment.
He met Cheryl Daniels, and together they were joined in marriage on July 5, 1989, in Galveston. After returning to the Joplin area, Errol became the owner and operator of Liberty Sharpening, where he was a master blade sharpener until his retirement.
He was known to his family as a "Jack of all trades, Master of many.” There was nothing too mechanical or engineerable designed that Errol could not master. He enjoyed working on cars, photography, and eBay.
Survivors include his wife, Cheryl Calvert, of Oronogo; children, Sarah Calvert, of Oronogo, Tracy Calvert and Bruce Calvert, both of Galveston, and Christy Wong, of the New England area; siblings, Susan Garrison, and her husband, John, and Denny Calvert, and his wife, Lucy, all of Arkansas City, KS; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Celebration of Life with Military Honors will be held on Wednesday, July 5, 2023, beginning at 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Parker Mortuary in Joplin. Inurnment will take place at a later date at the Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery in Joplin.
Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin.
