(From Parker Mortuary)Helen Leona Riley, a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2026, in Joplin, Missouri. Born on June 12, 1935, in Osceola, Wisconsin, to the late Clemence Garske and Rose Neidermire-Garske, Helen's life was a testament to her friendly nature, thoughtful spirit, and passionate heart.
A proud graduate of New Richmond High School in 1953, Helen's career was marked by her dedicated service as a secretary for St. Mary's Catholic School, where she worked for 14 years. Her role extended beyond administrative duties, as she became a beloved figure among staff and students alike. Following her tenure at the school, Helen embraced the role of a housewife, pouring her love and energy into creating a warm and welcoming home for her family.
Helen's Christian faith was a cornerstone of her life. For 46 years, she was a faithful member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, where she found strength and community. Her commitment to her faith was evident in her daily life and the way she raised her children.
Helen was competitive when it came to fishing, a pastime she greatly enjoyed. Her love for quilting was matched only by her skill, and her crafty hands created countless treasures that her family will cherish for generations. Sundays would often find her playing bingo, a tradition she looked forward to each week.
Helen's legacy is carried on by her loving family: sons, Thomas Riley of Pierz, MN, Patrick Riley (Beverly) of St. Cloud, MN, Kevin Riley (Hilary) of Joplin, MO; daughters Ann Pekarek (Dan) of Joplin, MO, and Kathleen Gentzler (Kevin) of Leavenworth, KS. Her sisters Ann Scobey of Hudson, WI, Rosie Carlson (David) of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Chris Krueger (Chuck) of Hatley, WI, along with sister-in-law’s Joan Garske and Rita Riley, both of New Richmond, WI. Helen's joy was multiplied by her 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, who will miss her dearly.
Helen was preceded in death by her loving husband, Peter ‘Terry’ Riley, who celebrated nearly 60 years together prior to his passing in 2016. Also preceding her in passing include her son, Paul Riley of Joplin in 2022, daughter in-laws, Judy Riley, Doreen Riley and siblings, Regina, Eva, Dusty, Donna, Frannie, Marion, Kenny and Ray.
Our family wishes to thank Dr.Bettasso and his dedicated staff for taking care of the Riley’s for nearly 40 years.
