(From Ulmer Funeral Home)John Sandlin, 66, of Carthage, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at home. John was born February 21, 1959, in Wichita, Kansas, to Jerry (Barbee) Sandlin. John considered his father-in-law, Ray Sjorlund, to be his dad.
From high school, John went straight into the U.S. Army and was deployed on several tours around the world throughout his career until his retirement from the military after serving over 20 years. He was a truck driver for over 40 years as an owner/operator. He enjoyed hunting, tinkering with his tractors, watching westerns, cutting down trees, and woodworking. John loved time with his grandchildren and was a racing enthusiast.
John was united in marriage to Peggy Sue Sjorlund on March 4, 1988, in Joplin, Missouri; she preceded him in death on July 17, 2025.
John is survived by his daughter, Kristin Silvers of Carthage, Missouri; two brothers, James “Jim” Sandlin of Nacogdoches, Texas, and William “Bill” Sandlin (Dora) of Belton, Texas; three sisters, Katrina Thomas of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Aleta Goodwin (Wes) of Joplin, Missouri, and Barb Baier (Troy) of Springfield, Missouri; and two grandchildren, Brylin and Braxton.
John is preceded in death by his wife of 37 years, Peggy; his mother, Jerry Sandlin; and his father-in-law, Ray Sjorlund.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 21, 2026, at Ulmer Funeral Home in Carthage, Missouri. A visitation will be held at 1:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service. Burial will be at Emmanuel Cemetery.
