Joan Leaming

Margaret “Joan” Gillen-Leaming, passed away on Monday, February 16, 2026, at Fox Wood Springs Nursing Home in Raymore, MO, at the age of 91.

Joan was born February 23, 1934, in Lockwood, MO to William Earl and Mona Laura (Matthews) Maberry. She was a high school graduate and married Wallace Leon Gillen on June 26, 1951. Together they raised three sons. 







Joan worked at Lake City Army Ammunitions Plant before retiring. She enjoyed doing embroidery and made many pillowcases and tea towels. She loved to cook and could make a mean spaghetti and meatball. She was a past member of the Eastern Star. Joan loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren with all her heart. On May 4, 2008, she married Greg Leaming and he preceded her in death. She had attended the Rose of Sharon Pentecostal Church in Kansas City.

Joan leaves behind three sons; David Gillen and his wife Debbie, Fort Scott, KS, Don Gillen and his wife Tia, Grain Valley, MO and Danny Gillen and his wife Chastity, Walker, MO; grandchildren, Michael, Kellie, Israel, Daniel, Becca, Kenny, Josh, Justin, Chris, Amber, Kaylyn, Ty, and Sami; along with several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother Tommy Maberry, a sister Marie Oliver and two great-grandchildren.








The family will receive friends from 9:00 am until service time, at the funeral home.

The funeral service will be 10:00 am Saturday February 21, 2026, at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada, MO with burial to follow in Moore Cemetery.

Family and friends are invited to gather at the Enchanted Prairie Farm for a meal at noon, after the service.

Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society with the funeral home serving as custodian.
