(From Derfelt Funeral Home)Barbara Sue (Mooney) Watson, age 87, went to heaven to be with her Lord and Savior at 1:18 am, Saturday, February 21, 2026, at her home in Galena.
Barbara was born June 13, 1938, in Riverton, KS, the eldest of three children of Harry Lee and Una (Derfelt) Mooney. Barbara graduated from Galena High School in 1955 and attended Joplin Jr College while working at St John’s Hospital and later in the office at Freeman Hospital, Joplin, MO.
She married her high school sweetheart, Ernest C Watson December 19, 1956 in Galena. They were married fifty-seven hears and worked together for over fifty years in Christian ministry. Earnest was a Baptist Minister and Barbara a dedicated helpmate, devoted mother, and an accomplished musician.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ernest in 2013, and her sister-in-law, Mary Mooney just two weeks ago.
Surviving are two sons, David Watson and wife Melody, Independence, KS and Stephen Watson, Galena, KS; grandson Jordan Watson and wife, Lisa, Andover, KS and grandchildren Harmony Kimzey, Oklahoma City, OK, Derek Kimzey, Independence, KS and three great-grandchildren.
Other survivors include brothers, Paul Mooney, Joplin, MO and James Mooney and wife, Marilyn, Riverton, KS. Barbara leaves a special niece, Rebecca Polok, many other nieces, nephews, and a host of extended family and friends.
Graveside services will be at 2:00 pm, Friday, February 27, 2026, at Hill Crest Cemetery, Galena, KS under the direction of Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena, KS.
