(From Buchanan Funeral Home)William “Billy” Lee Brewer was called into eternal rest on Friday, February 13, 2026, as the sun was rising, at his home in Monett, MO.
Billy was born on May 21, 1958, in Kansas City, MO, to Lonnie and JoAnn (Anderson) Brewer. As a young boy he was a pitcher in Little League and he and his brother Paul shared a newspaper route. He graduated from Winnetonka High School in 1977, where he enjoyed being a member of the Golden Variety Marching Band and the Jazz Band where he played Alto Saxophone-First Chair.
Billy entered the workforce at Boyles Corned Beef in Kansas City, MO, where he was known for his amazing work ethic- he always showed up as much as 90 minutes early to make sure the coffee was on. He made great lasting friendships there until 2006. While working at Boyles, Billy met his wife, Suzanne, in 2000, and they married at the Chapel of the Doves in Hollister, MO, as the sun was setting on September 1, 2001.
Billy then went on to work as a USDA Meat Inspector at Triump Foods, a pig processing plant in St. Joseph, MO, and then relocated to Monett, MO, where he worked as a USDA Meat Inspector for Tyson Foods where he took an early retirement in 2018 due to having throat cancer that he eventually beat.
On his days off and before he retired, he took pride in mowing the lawn twice a week and working around the yard and then he would enjoy spending time in the hot tub. He also enjoyed relaxing in his recliner with his pups watching old westerns, Matlock, the Andy Griffith Show, the Price is Right, along with many other game shows. He especially enjoyed watching the Kansas City Royals and the Kansas City Chiefs (until this season). Other pastimes were enjoying Dominoes, various card games like UNO, Spades and other board games. His favorite comedian was Don Rickles. Billy loved attending New Site Baptist Church with Suzanne and listening to Pastor Garrett Maxey’s sermons.
Billy is survived by his loving wife Suzanne and his sweet dogs Sunny and KoKo, along with step-daughter Johanna Kozlowski and step-son Timothy (Hannah) Kozlowski (whom they highly approved of their Mom marrying Billy!) along with several grandchildren: Auriella, Killian, T.J., Lucy, Loni, and Leah. He is also survived by his brothers, John (Patti) Brewer of Weatherby Lake, MO, Jim (Cheryl) Brewer of Overland Park, KS and Paul (Trina) Brewer of Blue Springs, MO; his sister, Annette (Sean) Dubey of Dauphin Island, AL; plus many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Years ago, Billy was briefly married to the late Vickie Blanton from 1991 to 1998 and was a loving stepdad to her three children, Tricia, Carrie and Nina, whom he adored. He taught Tricia, Carrie and Nina to drive, play pool and poker.
He was preceded in death by his mother, JoAnn; his father, Lonnie; his brother, Lawrence; his nephew, Scott Brewer; and his faithful pets, Stormy and D.O.G.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 21, 2026 at New Site Baptist Church with Reverend Garrett Maxey officiating. Interment will follow at Spring River Cemetery, Verona. The family invites friends for a time of visitation from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the church. Memorial contributions have been suggested to Haven of the Ozarks or Main Street (Memo-Dog Park). Arrangements are under the personal care of Buchanan Funeral Home, Monett, MO.
