Julia Sammons

Julia Esther Sammons was born July 1, 1937 in Pineville, MO to Della Mae (Seales) and Hershel Arley Henson. She peacefully entered into rest at the age of 88 years, 7 months, and 18 days on February 19, 2026 in Joplin, MO after several heartbreaking years battling Alzheimer’s. Julia married James Monroe Sammons on April 12, 1955 in Miami, OK; he preceded her in death on September 11, 2002.

Julia was a 1955 graduate of Neosho High School and lived in Southwest MO the majority of her life, briefly living in TX, KS, and Casablanca Morocco due to Jim’s military service. She was a member of Silver Moon Church of Holiness in Diamond, having returned to a faithful relationship with her Lord later in life. 






Julia prioritized her family and instilled her strength and high expectations to her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed her dogs, crafting, crocheting, Elvis, reading, puzzles, her flower gardens, and (penny) gambling trips to Tunica with friends.

Julia is survived by her children, Randy (Leah) Sammons, Patti Johnson, Rita (Tony) Thurman, Kevin (Shona) Sammons, and Glen (Anna) Sammons, 13 Grandchildren, 27 Great Grandchildren, 2 Great-great Grandsons, and many extended family and friends. 






 

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her two brothers, Victor Schmidt and Clyde Henson, her beloved stepfather, George Key, and her eldest son, Gerald Sammons.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 25, 2026 from 5:30PM– 7:00PM at Clark Funeral Home in Neosho, Missouri. Graveside service will be Thursday, February 26, 2026 at 1:00PM at Diamond Cemetery in Diamond, Missouri.

In lieu of flowers, donations to honor Julia may be made to Faithful Friends Animal Advocates, c/o Clark Funeral Home, P.O. Box 66, Neosho, Missouri 64850.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff and caregivers at Silver Creek Memory Care by Americare and Gentiva Hospice in Joplin.
