Ruth Burkhart

(From Parker Mortuary)

Ruth Annie Burkhart, age 73, of Joplin, passed away on Saturday, February 14, 2026 at her daughter’s home in Mountainburg, Arkansas.

Ruth was born on February 20, 1952 in Joplin, MO to the late union of Charles and Mary (Thomas) Cunningham. She was a proud 1970 graduate of Memorial High School, Ruth was known for her sharp intellect and her ability to bring people together.

After graduation, she dedicated her life to the noble calling of being a homemaker. She married Waldo Burkhart on February 6, 1972 and together they were blessed with 33 years of marriage before his passing in 2005. Shortly after, she married Grant Choate and they enjoyed each other’s company for 10 years before his passing in 2016. She was an exquisite dancer, moving with a rhythm and joy that was truly infectious. Her hands were rarely at rest, as she found delight in sewing and creating beautiful crafts from scratch, transforming simple materials into treasures that would be cherished by all who received them.

She enjoyed going to hootenannies with her favorite boots on. She had a particular fondness for Jeeps, which represented her adventurous spirit and her love for the great outdoors. Above all, Ruth was a caregiver, always putting the needs of her family above her own. Described by those who knew her as kind, Ruth's compassion knew no bounds. She was a friend to many, her warm presence a source of solace and encouragement. Her passion for life and her friendly nature made her a cherished member of her community, where she will be deeply missed.
