Lynda Mitchell

Lynda Kaye Mitchell, age 83, of Carl Junction, entered into her heavenly home on Friday, September 18, 2026.

Lynda was born on December 1, 1942, in Gardena, CA, to the late union of David and Faye (Bridge) Wood. On June 23, 1962, in Los Angeles, California, she was united in marriage to Herbert Wood and together they have shared the last fifty-nine years. They resided in Downey, California before moving to Joplin in 1974. Together they enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling, and riding motorcycles. Lynda made her living as a beautician, a profession that reflected her care for others and her natural ability to make people feel welcome and valued. She was a lifetime member of the LDS community, and her faith was an important part of her life. 

Lynda enjoyed many simple pleasures throughout her life. She treasured time spent with her family, and some of her happiest memories were made around the card table, where she loved to play games, especially Pinochle. Above all else, Lynda was a devoted family woman whose presence brought comfort and love to those around her. She was kind in word and deed, selfless in her giving, and faithful in her heart. Those who knew Lynda will remember her as a woman of integrity and tenderness, someone who lived with purpose and grace.

Lynda was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Wood; and three siblings, Gwyn Wood, Leola Bergen, and Paul Wood.

Lynda is survived by her sister, Ruby Dieble; a special niece whom he thought of as a daughter, Chris E. Decastro; sister-in-law, Chris Decastro; and a host of extended family.

Graveside Services will be held on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at Fairview Cemetery at 10:00 a.m. with Adam Grimes officiating. A celebration of life will follow at 12:00 p.m. at Amanda’s house, 912 Briarview Dr. Carl Junction, MO 64834.
