Lucille Frances Mayes, age 90, of Joplin, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, August 8, 2017, at Freeman Hospital West in Joplin.
Lucille was born on April 23, 1927, in Joplin, Missouri, to the union of the late James E. and Ethel Ruth (Cash) Howerton. She was raised in the Joplin area and she attended Joplin Schools. Lucille was employed at the Meeker Company in Joplin, where she assembled leather goods. She attended Harmony Heights Baptist Church and St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Joplin. Lucille was very fond of horses and she enjoyed sharing her love of horses with her two boys, Larry and Garry.
On July 16, 1943, Lucille was united in marriage to Howard H. Kiecker. Howard preceded her in death in 1995. Lucille married Robert E. “Bob” Mayes on January 17, 1998, and he preceded her in death in 2002.
Lucille was also preceded in death by her two sons, Larry Dean Kiecker and Garry Dale Kiecker; and three siblings, Ted, Clifford and Bernice Howerton.
Survivors include her grandson, Garry Kiecker, II, of Joplin, Missouri; four sisters, Lorene Yust and husband, Henry, of Joplin, Betty Watson of Commerce, Oklahoma, Barbara Windle and husband, John, of Joplin, and Glady Higginbothom, also of Joplin; several nieces and nephews as well as extended family and friends.
Graveside services are 2:30 p.m. Thursday, August 10, 2017, at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery in Joplin with Pastor Chuck Kralik officiating. Visitation is 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. Thursday, August 10, in the chapel of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary in Joplin. Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
