Leona Carter, a longtime Jasper resident, passed from this life into the next early Sunday morning October 29, 2017 with her beloved daughters by her side.
Born in Alba, Missouri on May 5, 1937 to Richard & Beatrice (Collier) Jarmin. She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth Carter, and two great grandchildren, Gabriel Collins and Elliott Channel. She is survived by four children Jim (Bev) Carter of Jasper, MO, Debra (Steven) Probert of Jasper MO, Cynthia (Terry) Emerson of Bella Vista AR, Jacqueline (Keith) Jordan of Forest City IA, her sister Carolyn Isenmann of Jasper MO, brother Gary Jarmin of Alba MO many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins, in-laws and some very close friends who will all miss her dearly.
A devoted mother, she returned to college as a non-traditional student in the late 1960’s where she was in the first graduating class to receive a four-year degree from Missouri Southern State College (now MSSU). Upon graduation she taught Business Education in Lockwood, MO for two years and then Jasper, MO where she taught many years before retiring. A lifelong Christian, she was a member of the Alba Christian Church until she graduated from Alba High School in 1955, she is a member of the Jasper Christian Church. Active since retirement she belonged to the Missouri State Teachers Association, the Lazy Daisies, was a founding member of her chapter of the Red Hat Society and served as Queen Mother, she and her husband Kenny enjoyed the wagon club. She always enjoyed attending her children’s, grandchildren’s & great grandchildren’s school and sporting events and was known to drive many miles to watch them participate or coach. Leona lived her faith and was always ready to lend a hand, a shoulder to cry on, a word of encouragement or was willing to make sure a physical need was met. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Visitation will be held Wed Nov 1, 2017 from 6-7 pm at Weng Funeral Chapel 605 South Main Jasper MO . The funeral will be held Thu Nov 2, 2017 at 10:00 am at Weng Funeral Chapel with burial to follow immediately at Mitchell Cemetery on Thorn Road east of Jasper.
