Mae Roeder

Mae Roeder was born outside of Stark City to James and Eva (Harris) Powell on August 4, 1936 and died October 20, 2017. She was one of seven children. Her family moved to Valley Center, KS where she met Marlin who she married on March 1, 1957. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at Disney World with Mickey Mouse and their family.

Mae was active for many years in the First Church Of God Ladies Missionary Group. She also enjoyed bowling, tennis, and camping with her family. She was an excellent seamstress, sewing many dresses for her self and daughters. She loved crocheting and embroidery as well. Mae was well-known for her African Violets and entered them in county fairs where she won many ribbons. Mae had a green thumb and could absolutely make anything grow.

Mae volunteered with the Church of God bus ministry for several years in Houston, TX and saw several family member's lives change. She also worked as a cook at the elementary school and later in the K-Mart cafeteria as manager. Mae babysat for many years and was always loved by the children she cared for and watched.

Mae is survived by the following; her husband, Marlin, of the home; two daughters, Nancy Highburger of Orlando, FL and Alice Staten of Cairo, GA; one brother, Floyd Powell of Branson, MO; three sisters, Margaret Cahalan of Pierce City, MO, Linda Bird of Wichita, KS, and Frances Ryan of West Virginia; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
