Lola C. Poffenbarger, 57, Carthage, MO, passed away early Friday morning, October 27, 2017 at her home. Lola “Carolyn” Allen was born November 2, 1959 in Viola, MO to the late Earnest Allen and Mary Bell (Gentry) Allen. She graduated from Blue Eye High School, Blue Eye, MO, Class of 1979. Carolyn then received her LPN degree from Twin Lakes Vocational Technical School in Harrison, AR. She most recently worked as an LPN for Carthage Health & Rehab, Carthage. Carolyn married Anthony Poffenbarger on October 28, 2005 in Carthage, MO; he survives.
Survivors include her husband, one daughter, Shenandoah Thorn (husband Chris), Joplin, MO; two brothers, Elzie Allen, Shell Knob, MO and Howard Allen, Shell Knob, MO; three sisters, Faye Adams, Kimberling City, MO, Pauline Blevins, Omaha, AR and Nadene Doss, Shell Knob, MO; and two grandchildren, Hanah Schrader and Kya Thorn, of Joplin MO.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Herman Allen, and one sister, Lena Lodwick, and one niece, Misty Irby.
Carolyn was a very special person. She led life with her heart. She enjoyed nature, animals (especially her cats), QVC and caring for others. She loved spending time with her family, especially her granddaughters. She traveled the country with them cheering them on at competitions and events. She will be missed but never forgotten.
Visitation will be held 6-7 pm, Friday, November 3, 2017 at Knell Mortuary. Memorial graveside services will be held 2 pm, Saturday, November 4, 2017 in McGuire Cemetery, Shell Knob, MO. Memorial gifts are suggested to the Joplin or Carthage Humane Society or the American Diabetes Association in care of Knell Mortuary.
