Joe Bearden

(From Clark Funeral Home)

Joe Roy Bearden passed away at Mercy Hospital Joplin, after six months of failing health, with his loving family by his side, holding their hands, on June 2, 2020, at the age of 72.

Joe was born in Branson, Missouri, February 3, 1948, one of seven children to Charles and Christine (McHolland) Bearden. He is remembered for his exceptional work ethic and love for his family.

Joe proudly served in the U.S. Army as a First Lieutenant, serving in Vietnam and Korea, awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart for his heroic service and dedication. After his honorable discharge, he pursued his education at Pit State University, Pittsburgh, Kansas, and earned two Master’s degrees in Math and Chemical Science. He provided for his family working at Cardinal Scale Manufacturing Company until retirement in 2008, with 20 dedicated years.

Joe completed more before “o’dark thirty” in the morning than most did all day. Rising to cook his own breakfast at 4am was a common occurrence at his home. He was always a hard worker and found comfort and peace with his family and working his land, never wanting to stray too far from either.

Joe met and married his sweetheart Sue, and shared 37 years together. They enjoyed raising two children and sharing their home with children and grandchildren: Donna, Mark, Emma, Matthew, Kodi, Levi, Jimm and Zach on their five acre farm. Joe’s work ethic could also be seen in his “leisure activities” working in his garden and raising cattle.

Joe is survived by his wife Sue; his children, Emma Cole and Companion Bradley Copeland, Joplin, Missouri, Matthew Bell and Companion Hunter Dean, Commerce, Oklahoma, Donna Cole, Joplin, Missouri, Mark Cole, Shelbyville, Illinois; grandchildren, Kodi Cole, Arlington, Texas, Levi Cole, Jimm Cole and Zack Boyle, all three of Shelbyville, Illinois and Elena Rose Bell, Commerce Oklahoma; one brother Willis “Glee" and wife Beverly Bearden, Osceola, Missouri, one sister Jerry Nevins, Branson, Missouri and five great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by four brothers.

Family and Friends may call at the Clark Funeral home Neosho, on Monday, June 8, 2020 from 9-5pm to sign the register book. Graveside Funeral service with full military honors will be Tuesday, June 9, 2020 at 10am at Cedar Creek Cemetery, Tipton Ford, Missouri. Pastor Michael Blewett will be officiating.
