Mary Whetstone

Mary Whetstone age 86 of Joplin, Missouri passed away on Tuesday, December 8, 2020 at Spring River Christian Village. She was born on October 19, 1934 in Sabinal, Texas to Oliver Shelton and Ethel (Henry) Shelton. 

Mary was a housewife for most of her life but she did teach for a few years at Webb City High School in the 60’s, and was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Webb City. She graduated Sabinal High School in 1952, and then went on to graduate from Southwest Texas Junior College in 1954. Mary went on to attend the University Of Corpus Christi Texas where she received two Bachelor Degrees in 1958. 

She married Reverend Louis Russell Whetstone in December of 1955 in Sabinal, Texas and he preceded her in death on September 22, 1992. 








Mary was also preceded in death by her sisters, Veva McDevitt, Barbara Henley, Eunice Spears, and Ora Mae Meli. 

She is survived by her daughters, Analisa Whetstone-Sweeton and husband Mike of Joplin, Sheira Snyder of Ozark, Missouri; a son, Paul David Whetstone of Hollywood, California; grandchildren, Tyrannie Whetstone of Ozark, Missouri, Tyeler-Anne Whetstone of Missouri; great grandchildren, Hailie Green and Lalea Green of Carl Junction, Missouri; along with numerous other family members and friends. 

Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 14, 2020 at 12:00 PM at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Webb City with Billy Conroy officiating. The family will be present for visitation on Monday from 11:00 AM until service time. Burial will follow services at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. The family would like to give a special thanks to Spring River Christian Village and Avalon Hospice for all the care and love they showed to Mary in her time of need. Please practice social distancing while attending the services and also mask are preferred when you cannot social distance.
