(From Mason-Woodard Mortuary)Glen Newman completed his life's purpose as a servant of Jesus Christ and a child of God and was welcomed into heaven March 2, 2023. Glen was born November 9, 1946 to Bertha (nee Barbee) and Vernon Newman, loving parents who taught him that Jesus loved him and demonstrated that love by dying for his sins and reconciling him to God. Glen’s lifelong faith and that truth set him on his life's course to follow Jesus.
After graduation from Normandy High School, he enrolled at the St. Louis College of Pharmacy. While completing his education, he met and married Rosemary Pithers on August 17th, 1968. They celebrated 54 years of marriage.
During college Glen worked at a small family-owned pharmacy. After graduation he worked as a pharmacy manager for three different pharmacy departments for Kare Drug. In 1978 he transferred to Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital where he managed the Ambulatory Care Center Pharmacy. While there he submitted a protocol for a Roche Grant to Practicing Hospital Pharmacists and was fortunate to receive one of 11 grants awarded nationally.
In 1981 the family moved from St. Louis to Joplin, Missouri, and Glen began his position as a registered pharmacist at St. John’s Hospital where he remained for 32 years retiring May 9th, 2013. His love of photography enabled him to be a consultant with St John’s and Freeman Hospitals for several years on photographing and developing publications. He also worked as a substitute pharmacist at various Walmart stores in the local area. Glen was recognized by the Missouri Board of Pharmacy for 50 years of faithful service.
Glen chose to glorify God by using his beautiful tenor voice in church choirs and special music. He and Rosemary hosted many groups through the years for Sunday School, Bible studies, and life groups and enjoyed participating with their family in annual Passion plays and Christmas pageants. As more and more friendships developed through the years Glen enjoyed planning trips with the people he loved.
His love, kindness, wit, humor, attention to detail, and dedication to serving others will be deeply missed by his wife, Rosemary, daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and Greg Powell of Springfield; son and daughter-in-law, Russell and Beth Newman of Joplin; two cousins, Beverly Newman and Linda Eckard and husband Zande; five grandchildren, Ava, Ethan, and Aaron Powell and Marissa and Emily Newman; nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.
