(From Parker Mortuary)Velma Marie Cox, age 89, Joplin, passed away on Thursday, March 2, 2023 at the Communities of Wildwood in Joplin.
Velma was born August 7, 1933 in Hallowell, Kansas, daughter of the late Earl Eads and Alice (Wellington) Johnson. She worked for Miller Manufacturing Company and LaBarge Electronics before retiring September 10, 1996.
She loved spending time watching wildlife in her yard, from hummingbirds to cardinals. She also loved her family and was a joy to be around. She will be greatly missed by many.
In addition to her parents, Velma was preceded in death by a daughter, Cindy Brown, a sister, Harriet Harmon, and her Yorkshire Terrier named Cody who was great company for her up until his passing away a year ago at the age of 13.
Survivors include her daughter, Janet Slifer and husband Michael of Yukon, Oklahoma, daughter, Robyn Price and husband Ed of Yukon, Oklahoma, son, Earl R. Clements and wife Kim of El Mirage, Arizona, son, Robert West of Albuquerque, New Mexico; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; several other extended family members and friends.
Funeral service will be Monday, March 6, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. in Parker Mortuary Chapel with her grandson Michael Price officiating. Interment will follow in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery.
