John Holloway

(From Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home)

John Robert Holloway, 69, of North Port, Florida, formerly of Blackburn, Missouri died Tuesday, October 1, 2024, in a plane crash.

John Robert was born to Harry and Zola (Kivett) Holloway in Kansas City, Missouri with his mirrored twin, Jeffery William, on January 20, 1955. The family lived in Kansas City for the first few years of John's life before moving to the family farm in 1965. John was baptized into the faith at Linwood United Methodist Church in Kansas City, and later was a member of Elmwood United Methodist Church in the township of Elmwood, Missouri.

John attended Santa Fe High School where he excelled at football and track. He attended William Penn University in Oskaloosa, Iowa and Central Missouri University in Warrensburg, Missouri. John was involved in several lines of work besides farming. He also worked construction in the Kansas City area, and at Wilson Foods of Marshall, MO. He was last employed at Win Cup, in Higginsville, MO, as a night shift supervisor, where his humor and jokes were heard from 1994 until his retirement in January, 2021.

In August, 2021, John moved to Florida where he pursued the endless task of filling yet another garage full of junk. He was assisted by his partner in crime, his twin brother Jeff. Their mother Zola always said "What one didn't think of, the other one would!" John never met a woman that he didn't like. Like a sad cowboy song "he couldn't stay married, but that didn't stop him from trying". John was known for his tasteless jokes and utilized no filter. John was known for and co-created "Holloway Minutes". If John was going to be a "few minutes late," you can bet he was going to be an hour or longer.

Around 2012, John and Jeff began to pursue their dream of becoming pilots. In 2012, they purchased a single engine plane. On August 1, 2013, in Lee's Summit, Missouri John passed his first solo flight and one week later, Jeff passed. It was later that both John and Jeff found and purchased the true love of their lives, a twin-engine Beechcraft B55 Baron. It was this aircraft upon which John would take his final flight.

John was preceded in death by his parents, maternal and paternal grandparents, and his niece Laura Beth Manning.

Those left behind to mourn his passing are his two daughters, Jennifer (David) Schreiman, of Blackburn, and Julie Hinson, of Alma. Four (4) siblings: Judy (Clarence) Manning of Carthage, MO; twin brother Jeffery W. Holloway, of Sedalia, MO; Janet (Roger) Bergman of Holts Summit, MO and Jay Holloway of North Ft. Myers, Florida. Four (4) grandchildren: Blake and Brooke Schreiman and Mckenzie and Nolan Hinson. He also leaves behind Patty Lovercamp Jacobson, with whom he was in a long-term relationship. John and his humor will be dearly missed by all his friends and family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to family choice in care of Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home. Friends may sign the online register book at www.campbell-lewis.com

A celebration of John's life is to be scheduled for November 23, 2024, at 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Blackburn Civic Center, 205 N. Main Street, Blackburn, MO 65321.
