Fred Colbert

Retired Senior Chief E-8 Frederick (Fred) Lee Colbert Jr. passed away Thursday, Oct 3, 2024, at Mercy Hospital in Rogers, AR. He was born September 30, 1941, in St. Louis, MO. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick Lee Colbert Sr. and May Juanita Bock Schroeder.

Fred started his military career with 2 years in the United States Army. He then transferred to the United States Navy and served 28 years, serving on three US Navy Ships, before retiring in 1986 as a Senior Chief Hospital Corpsman HMCS. He served as a Navy Corpsman with the Marines during the Vietnam War, 1966-1967. He served as a Hospital Corpsman; Fleet Marine Force Corpsman; Advanced X-Ray Technician; and Independent Duty Corpsman (authorized to serve on ships without a doctor). He earned an Associates in Science degree through the Navy from George Washington University in 1977.








Fred enjoyed fishing and speeding across the water in his boat. He loved helping others, nature, wildlife and his beloved animals. Fred had many dogs, cats and horses in his lifetime. He was a die hard Cardinals fan since before he could walk. He was an amazing and dedicated husband and father. Most of all he was steadfast in his faith and loved the Lord. 

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Carole of 41 years, daughter Shezan Cliffman and husband John of Joplin, MO, son Larry Henry Jr. of Rogers, AR, granddaughter Shayla Cliffman of Joplin, MO, brother Larry Colbert and wife Barbara of Tieton, WA, sister Pat Palmer of Oklahoma City, OK, numerous nieces, nephews, and many cherished friends.

Visitation will be Thursday, October 10, 2024 from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at Benton County Funeral Home, 306 N. 4th, Rogers, AR. Funeral mass will be Friday, October 11th, 2024 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 1416 W Poplar St, Rogers, AR. Interment with full military honors will follow at the Fayetteville National Cemetery, 1000 S Lt Col Leroy Pond Ave, Fayetteville, AR. Online condolences to www.bentoncountyfuneralhome.com
