Joan Thompson

(From Ozark Funeral Home)

Joan Doloris Thompson, 89, of Neosho, Missouri, formerly of Rogers, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, October 1, 2024, at Medicalodge in Neosho, Missouri. She entered this life on March 11, 1935, in Dorothy, West Virginia, the youngest of seven children born to the late Ernest and Gertrude (Reed) Zornes.

Joan's early years in Dorothy laid a strong foundation for the remarkable life she would lead. Her adventurous spirit was nurtured by the diverse experiences she encountered as she lived in various places throughout the United States and overseas, adapting to the demands of her husband's military service. Joan herself served her country with honor in the United States Army, a testament to her patriotism and resilience.

In 1992, Joan moved to Neosho, Missouri, and later settled in Northwest Arkansas, where she would spend nearly three decades. Her role as a devoted homemaker was one she cherished deeply, and she took great pride in the comfort and care she provided to her family.

Joan's commitment to her faith was evident in her active membership at the Church of Christ. Her love for her family was her greatest passion, and she embraced every moment as a grandmother with open arms and an open heart. The delight she took in her grandchildren's achievements and milestones was matched only by the love and wisdom she imparted to them.

She is survived by her two children, Carl Cobb and wife, Becky, of Neosho, Missouri and Don Berndt and wife, Pam, of Rogers, Arkansas; seven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three children, Marshall Cobb, William Berndt and Sandra Cobb Montgomery; and six siblings, Mildred Stover, Elwood Zornes, Tommy Zornes, Josephine Morris, Gladys Walker and Ernestine Schnider.

Graveside services with full military honors are 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 16, 2024 at Fayetteville National Cemetery in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Those honoring her life by serving as pallbearers are Frank Berndt, Chris Berndt, Michael Berndt, Jonas Yost, Tony Flint and Kaden Doke. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 5-7:00 p.m. at Ozark Funeral Home in Anderson, Missouri. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Ozark Funeral Home in Anderson, Missouri.
