(From Brenner Mortuary)Virginia "Ginger" Marie Freeman, 79, of Pittsburg, KS, passed away on October 9, 2024 of a
sudden illness at Mercy Hospital - Pittsburg, Kansas.
Born on June 9, 1945, to Paul Arthur and Mary Virginia (Torchia) Coon in Pittsburg, Kansas. Ginger lived a life filled with love, laughter, and generosity.
On November 6, 1965, she married the love of her life, William (Bill) Freeman, in Pittsburg and together they shared nearly 59 years of love and devotion. Bill survives her at their home in Pittsburg.
Ginger was a graduate of Pittsburg High School and the Cosmetology School at Kansas State College of Pittsburg. She pursued her passion as a professional Stylist for nearly eight years, ending in 1973 with the sale of her Pittsburg Salon. Her attention then turned to her growing family.
Ginger's home was often filled with the warm, inviting smell of her cooking, as she was renowned for her culinary skills. She especially took pride in her homemade ravioli, a dish that became a family favorite, always made with care and love. Ginger had a gift for nurturing, not just in the kitchen but with her gentle spirit, earning her the affectionate nickname of the "baby whisperer." She had a special way of calming and caring for children, whether her own, her grandchildren or the children of friends, leaving a lasting impact on those around her. Her laughter was infectious, and her joy for life was evident in every room she entered. Ginger was always laughing, and her laugh had a way of lifting the spirits of everyone around her. It's one of the things people will miss the most-her bright, genuine laughter that could make any day a little better. Her compassion extended beyond her family. Ginger was an active community and church volunteer, always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need.
In addition to her husband, Bill, Ginger is survived by her two sons, Brian Freeman (Betsy) of Pittsburg, KS, and Bradley Freeman (Mary Beth) of Cleveland, OH; a brother Rick Coon (Sharon) of Girard, KS; two sisters, Cora Johnson (Chris) of Joplin, MO, and Tammy Krueger (Eric) of Eudora, KS; and four grandchildren, Brett, Brandon, Avery, and Walker Freeman. She is preceded in death by her parents and her sister Paula Hearn.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at 10 AM at St. John Lutheran Church, with Pastor Tom Wehrman officiating. Burial will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Tuesday, October 15, from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM at Brenner Mortuary.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. John Lutheran Church or Fostering Connections in Ginger's memory. Arrangements are under the care of Brenner Mortuary, 114 E. 4th St., Pittsburg, KS. Ginger's legacy of love, laughter, service, and culinary talent will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her. She will be deeply missed, especially for her radiant laughter that filled every room.
