(From Derfelt Funeral Home)John Seitz age 90, pass from this life on October 6, 2024 at his home surrounded by family.
John was born June 14, 1934 to the late James Seitz and Mary Belle (Morris) Seitz. He was the 8th out of 9 children. His only surviving sibling is Margie Hamilton of Salisbury, MO.
Also preceding him in death was his wife, Peggy Kirkpatrick with whom he had four daughters, Pamila Pleasant of Joplin, MO, Sharin Bowman of Baxter Springs, Johnia Lavine of Muncie, Indiana, and Jamie Myers of Galena, KS.
After Peggy’s death, John married Connie Huffman and added James Huffman of Riverton, KS, Mike Huffman of rural Baxter Springs, Ks and Jodie Ward of Galena to his family.
John served his country proudly, joining the Sedalia National Guard at age 15. He enlisted in the US Navy at age 17, during the Korean War. Then served in the US Air Force Reserve in Joplin, MO. Then later retired from 891st National Guard, Pittsburg, KS for a total of 29 years of service.
He worked at B.F. Goodrich and retired from the Baxter Springs Street department.
John also has 17 grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
Memorial graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 11, 2024 at Pleasant View Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Baxter Springs American Legion Post #206. Memorial donations may be made tot the Wounded Warrior project in care of the funeral home. Online condolences maybe expressed at www.derfeltfuneralhomes.com.
