Aloha Elizabeth Mitchell Ruth, age 77, Joplin, passed away on Thursday, November 13, 2014 at her home with family at her side.
Aloha was born February 6, 1937 in Joplin, daughter of the late Clarence R. Mitchell and Chloe Elizabeth Steele Mitchell. Aloha was one of nine Mitchell children, and she attended Joplin Schools, and Central Christian Center. She worked hard all her life as a maid for several area hotel and motels including the Connor and Keystone Hotels. She later worked for The Meadows Nursing Center in the laundry department. She was proud to be of the Cherokee Nation, and was a member of the Mid-Americas' Indian Fellowship.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Floyd O. McKinney and Clarence W. Mitchell, and a son-in-law, Gary Gene Hardin.
Aloha took great pride in raising her two daughters, Dixie Lee Hardin Mitchell and Myrtle Louise Ruth Martin (Paul) both of Joplin; grandchildren, Raymond Carl Ruth of Joplin, Sara Ann Martin Doherty (Josh) of Joplin, Bryant E. Beehler, II of Pratt, Kansas, and Carla J. McCully of Joplin; brothers, Rex G. Mitchell (DeWanda) of Webb City, Buddy E. Mitchell (Quana Sue) of Joplin, Richard L. Mitchell (Janie) of Webb City, Charlie R. Mitchell (Jenny) of Joplin; sisters, Ruth Bryant (Jerry) of Joplin, Sue Redden (Jay) of Joplin; uncle, Gene Steele (Pauline) of Joplin; several nieces and nephews, and her two loyal companions, Rosie and Gray.
Memorial services will be Sunday, November 16, 2014 at 4:00 p.m. in Parker Mortuary Chapel with family officiating.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Red Cloud Indian Schools care of Parker Mortuary.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
