Ned Norton Walters, age 66, Joplin, passed away at 9:35 a.m. Thursday, November 20, 2014 at Freeman West Hospital after a sudden illness.
Ned was born November 20, 1948 in Coffeyville, Kansas to the late Arthur Norton Walters and Kathryn Joan Neely Walters and had lived in the Joplin area for almost 30 years.
Ned received a chemical engineering degree from the University of Kansas in Lawrence in 1971. He worked as a chemical engineer for Sherwin Williams from 1970 until 1974 and was a co-owner of Coffeyville Janitor Supply from 1974-1988. He owned and operated Unitech in Carl Junction from 1986 until 1998. In 1998, he became owner and operator of Cunningham Sandblasting in Riverton.
He was a member of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church and a faithful member of the Knights of Columbus, both in Coffeyville and in Joplin. Ned was a member of the Coffeyville Kiwanis Club and was a past president.
He married Nancy Percival on June 13, 1970 in Coffeyville. She survives at the home.
Additional survivors include his children, Kate Niedfeldt and her husband, Matthew, Illinois, Luke Walters, Illinois, Scott Walters, Kansas City, Missouri, Tom Walters and his wife, Emily, Joplin; a sister, Nan Lynn, Coffeyville; and five grandchildren, Chloe, Connor, Sawyer, Aubree and Brynn.
A memorial service is planned for Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary Chapel. Fr. Leonard Chambers will officiate. The family will receive friends following the services at the mortuary.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, in care of Parker Mortuary.
