Betty D. Chandler, age 72, of Joplin, Mo. passed away at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at the Communities of Wildwood Ranch. Betty was born November 1, 1942 in Mountain Grove, Mo. She had lived in Joplin most of her life. She was a 1960 graduate of Joplin High School, and a graduate of Joplin Business College. Betty was employed for 31 years with the Jasper County Family Services, retiring in 2001. Betty was a member of College Heights Christian Church. She was a member of the Business and Professional Women, and was selected as Business Woman of the Year. Betty served on the Board of the Independent Living Center, and volunteered with Ronald McDonald House and the Community Clinic, as well as a passion for Lafayette House . In 1986 she received the honor of Handicap Person of the Year. She served 5 years on the Governor’s Council For Vocational Rehabilitation.
Betty is survived by one daughter, Cynthia Wilson and husband Timothy, Harmony, Florida, two brothers, Bobby Shields and wife Joyce, Cushing, Oklahoma, and Wally Shields and wife Debbie, Webb City, Mo., one sister, Joyce Myers and husband John, Joplin, six grandchildren; Tim Wilson and wife Johnna, Suzanne Davis, Daniel Wilson and wife Frances, Brittany Wilson, James Wilson and Kaya Wilson, and four great grandchildren; Harley, Jesse, Avery, and Madeline.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday at the Mason-Woodard Chapel with Rick Bushnell, Minister, officiating. Burial will follow at the Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. Thursday at the Mortuary. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Lafayette House. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mason-Woodard Mortuary of Joplin, Mo.
