Treva Carter

Treva Lucille Carter, 89, of Joplin, Missouri passed into eternal life on Monday November 3, 2014 after a long illness surrounded by her loving family at her apartment in Spring River Christian Village. She moved to her current residence in June 2011 after the tornado destroyed her home of 53 years at 2008 Arizona in Joplin. She will be greatly missed by all that knew her.

Treva was born November 22, 1924 in Sioux County Iowa, the daughter of Edward and Grace Luttig and was a lifelong area resident. She was retired after a long career with Newman Department Stores and enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. She was a devout Christian and a long-time member of Harmony Heights Baptist Church in Joplin.

Upon graduating from Jasper, Missouri high school, Treva married Harold A. Carter on May 19, 1943 and he preceded her in death on April 15, 1991. In addition to her husband, parents, and three brothers and one sister, she was preceded in death by two daughters Valerie and Gracie, two grandsons Chris and Matt, and a great grandson Nathan.

She is survived by a son, Harold A. Carter and wife Cindy of Lawrence, Kansas and a daughter, Deborah A. Carter of Miami, Oklahoma; nine grandchildren, Jeff Bateman (Daisy), Gale Bridges (Robert), Jeannette Corral, Jennifer Bateman, Lisa Rojo, Amy Edwards, (Derek), Brent Carter, Dawn Fields (John), and Allison Henderson (Tyler); nineteen great grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin, Mo. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 PM Wednesday (11/5) at the funeral home. Services will be at 1 PM Thursday at Harmony Heights Baptist Church, Joplin with final interment at Fasken Cemetery – rural Carthage, Mo.



In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Four States, 3402 S Jackson Ave., Joplin, Mo 64804.
