Robert M. ‘Bob’ Kittrell, age 80, Joplin, passed away at 6:54 p.m. Friday, November 14, 2014 at his home after an illness.
Bob was born October 5, 1934 in Smithfield, Missouri to the late Spencer G. Kittrell and Mollie P. Cantrell Kittrell and had lived in the Joplin area most of his life.
Bob worked as a heavy machine diesel mechanic for P&M Coal Company for over 20 years. Following his retirement, he and his wife operated a farm and raised horses, cows, pigs and bailed hay. He was a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church, where he helped maintain the media booth and lighting and also serviced the heat and air when needed.
In his spare time, Bob enjoyed traveling with his wife. They visited Pikes Peak, the Grand Canyon, Mount Rushmore and Branson. His favorite shows were the Baldknobbers and The Gaithers.
Bob married Bonnie Kathleen Lamb on May 2, 1953 in Joplin. She survives at the home.
Additional survivors include his children, Debra Kittrell, Joplin, Donna Curry, Joplin, Darlene Vail, Saginaw, Michigan, Robert Peppers, Joplin; one sister, Sandra Kittrell, Joplin; one brother, Harlen Kittrell and his wife, Mary Pat, Omaha, Nebraska; nine grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
Services are planned for Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary Chapel. Brandon Doris will officiate. Interment will follow at Carl Junction Cemetery. Pallbearers will be John Greninger, Allen Greninger, Ricky Smith, LeAlan Kilbane, Ben Curry and Brian Smith. The family will receive friends Monday from 6-7:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary.
