Shirley Ann Wright, age 86, Joplin, passed away on Sunday, November 2, 2014 at Mercy Hospital of Joplin.
Shirley was born September 15, 1928 in Carl Junction, Missouri, daughter of the late John Amos McKee and Geraldine Storey McKee. She grew up in Carl Junction, and graduated from Carl Junction High School, and later received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Missouri Southern State College (now MSSU). She worked as a surgical tech for many years, and after receiving her degree Shirley worked with the doctors in the operating room as an operating room RN. She retired in the early 1990's after over twenty years at Freeman Hospital. She was also a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur P. Wright.
Survivors include her two sons, Brad Wright and companion Sherri Bowman of Joplin, David Wright and wife Gina of Whitehouse, Texas; daughters, Lou Ann Capps and husband David of Lenexa, Kansas, and Elizabeth Bernica and husband Greg of Houston, Texas; grandchildren, Spencer Wright, John Wright, Gina Colombini and husband Bryan, Joey Bernica and wife Jessica; Timothy Bernica and Annie Bernica; one great-grandchild, Luca.
Memorial Funeral Mass will be Friday, November 7, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church on 7th Street in Joplin with Father Justin Monaghan officiating.
The family will receive friends at Parker Mortuary on Thursday from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association, or to St Mary's Catholic Church.
