(From Daniel Funeral Home)
Mary Ellen Blake, age 92, of Lamar, MO passed Monday, November 17, 2014 at Truman Healthcare Center.
Mary was born March 8, 1922 to Rufus Trimble and Mamie (Buzzarra) Trimble at Crown Hill, WV. Her father, as well as other family members, worked in the coal mines. As a young girl, she would sneak off to the coal mines with her father, so she knew quite a bit about the coalmine industry. She married Thomas Edward Blake and together they raised four daughters. They moved to Golden City, MO in 1971 and then later moved to Arkansas. After her husband, Thomas died in 1997, she moved to Lamar.
Mary worked as a riveter in an airplane factory during WWII, at Lacon Woolen Mill in Lacon, IL, was a clerk for W.T. Grant Department Store in Peoria, IL, and at Vogelsang Grocery Store in Peoria, but her true calling was as a homemaker. She enjoyed fishing, gardening and playing bingo, but her greatest love was her grandchildren.
Survivors include four daughters; Brenda (Ed) Hays, Mustang, OK, Mary (Robert) Casey, Amarillo, TX, Janice (Gene) Onstott, Lamar, MO, and Michelle (Phil) Padgett, Pine Bluff, AR; 12 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her husband Thomas in 1997, three brothers, and four sisters.
A memorial service will be 11:00 pm Friday, November 21, 2014 at Daniel Funeral Home with burial at Crestlawn Cemetery, Conway, AR.
Contributions are suggested to Barton County Humane Society in care of Daniel Funeral Home.
