Darla R. Muskrat, 53, Carthage, passed away Monday, November 17, 2014 in Freeman West Hospital, Joplin. Darla Ruth Wilks was born April 16, 1961 in Carthage; a daughter of the late Heber Bernard Wilks and Delores Marie Cromer Wilks. She attended Carthage Public Schools and was a 1979 graduate of Carthage Senior High School. She attended Missouri Southern College and was a graduate of Redkin Missouri Scientific School of Cosmetology, Joplin; Class of 1982. She married Tom Muskrat, Jr. on January 27, 2002 in Carthage; he survives. Darla was a member of the First Baptist Church, Carthage. She currently was a paraprofessional at the Carthage Senior High School.
Additional survivors include a daughter; Lindsay (Andrew) McConnell-Slater, Wichita, Kansas; two sons; Jesse (Ana) McConnell, Oahu, Hawaii and Nicholas Muskrat, Carthage; one sister, Terri (Steve) Champlin, Fayetteville, Arkansas; two brothers, Doug (Terrie) Wilks, Joplin and Jeff (Debbie) Wilks, Carthage.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 – 4:00 PM, Sunday, November 22 at Knell Mortuary, Carthage. Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM, Monday, November 23 at the First Baptist Church, Carthage. Rev. John Davidson will officiate. Interment will be in Park Cemetery, Carthage. Memorial gifts are suggested to the Gideon’s International or the First Baptist Church of Carthage, in care of Knell Mortuary. Online condolences may be expressed through www.knellmortuary.com.
