Ruby M. Spor Wilbur, age 98 of Joplin, passed away at 10:38 a.m. on Thursday, November 20, 2014 at National Healthcare Center.
Born January 23, 1916 near Granby, MO, she was the daughter of the late Andy and Rosa Virkler Spor and had lived in Joplin since 1955. A homemaker much of her life, she had also worked at the former Meeker Leather Goods and Rex Metallic Casket Company in Webb City for several years. She was a member of Southside Apostolic Faith Church in Joplin.
On June 6, 1935, she married Homer Wilbur in Carthage, MO. He preceded her in death on July 12, 2006. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded by a brother, Floyd Spor; and four sisters, Flora Block, Katie Wingo, Wilma Conner and Mary Lou West.
Survivors include a daughter, Phyllis Hegeman and husband John of Joplin; two grandchildren, Michael Hegeman of Monkey Island, OK, Janice Ferguson and husband Mark of Neosho, MO; three great-grandchildren, Alexandra Reed and husband Caleb, Ryan and Derek Ferguson; a sister-in-law, Lucille Spor of Carthage.
Funeral services will be held 2:30 p.m. Monday at Parker Mortuary with Rev. Richard Morris officiating. Interment will follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery with family members serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary. Memorial contributions may be made to Southside Apostolic Faith Church.
