Robert G Holley age 88, of Joplin, Mo passed away Thursday November 20, 2014 peacefully in his sleep.
He was born January 22, 1926 in Detroit, MI to James and Margaret (Gossel) Holley.
Robert was a World War II veteran and served in the United States Navy as Seaman First Class. His craft, LST779, was the first to land on Iwo Jima, Mt. Surabachi. He retired as a draftsman from Ozark Engineering. He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed making stained glass and loved taking care of his family.
He is survived by three sons; James Holley, Randy Holley, Richard Baldridge, one daughter; Tammy (Calie) Holley-Daniell, seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and one brother; Harvey Holley.
Robert was preceded in death by his wife Evelyn, and two brothers; James and Donald Holley.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday at the Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary with Pastor Jeff Werda officiating. Burial, with military honors, will follow at the Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Sunday from 3:00 to 5:00 at the mortuary.
