Raymond “Ray” F. Brooks, age 88 of Joplin, Mo. passed away at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at KU Medical Center in Kansas City, Ks.
Ray was born on October 7, 1926 in Webb City, Mo. the son of Frank Elliott and Juanita (Cobb) Brooks. He worked for many years as a sewing machine mechanic at Key Work Clothes, Burlington Manufacturing, YouthCraft, Bill Kaiser and Missouri Sewing Machine before retiring in 2000. Following his retirement, Ray also worked as a security guard for the Kansas City Royals at Kauffman Stadium. He was an Elder at Community of Christ Church, a PTA President and Boy Scout Leader.
Ray married Betty Lee Feagins on July 20, 1947 in Ft. Scott, Ks. She survives at home. Additional survivors include three sons; Bob Brooks and wife Joan of Joplin, Steven Brooks and wife Jerri of Conway, Mo., Brian Brooks and wife Tania of Joplin, three daughters; Becky Jo Sears and husband Ray of Carrollton, Mo., Anita Tignor and husband Marty of Joplin, Nancy Zamastil and husband Ray of Warrensburg, Mo., one brother; Carl Brooks of Fishers, In., one sister; Bonnie Cash of Evansville, In., 17 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. Ray was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Ruth Moore.
Funeral services have been scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 22, 2014 at the Mason-Woodard Chapel with Lester Lay officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Webb City. The family will receive friends at Mason-Woodard between 6 to 7 p.m. Friday evening.
