Katherine Campbell

Katherine Belmont (Hayes) (Starne) Campbell, age 101, was called home by her heavenly father on Thursday, June 6, 2019 at 11:07 PM. Derfelt Funeral Home, Oswego, Ks is handling Katherine’s services.

Visitation will be at the funeral home on Tuesday, June 11, 2019 from 10-12:00 PM with graveside services and interment to follow at 1:00 PM at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Independence, KS. 

Katherine was born December 11, 1917 to Clyde F. and Carrie Bell (Walker) Hayes at her parent’s home in the Belong Additions, Independence, KS. She attended school in Independence. Her father became a Pentecostal minister in Okmulgee, OK in about 1933 and went on to pastor churches in Arcadia and Oswego, KS. He retired in 1960 from the Oswego Assembly of God church, and shortly thereafter, he and his wife moved to Independence. In following years, he was called on to fill in as pastor at a number of churches in surrounding communities. 

Katherine loved books and music. Her Bible was the most important book to her. She read her Bible every day. She also enjoyed composing poetry and songs. One of her poems, entitled “He Spoke”, written on July 1, 1960 in Independence, KS was published. Katherine had a lovely voice and enjoyed singing. She often accompanied herself on guitar. 

She married John Marion Starne on November 20, 1938 at the Assembly of God Church in Arcadia, KS. They were kissed with three children, Ruth Mae, John Aaron, and Paul Eugene. Her husband, John, passed away on January 9, 1984 in Independence, KS. 








On April 27, 1988, Katherine married Beecher Allen Campbell at the Assembly of God Church in Oswego, KS. He survives. 

Additional survivors include one son, Paul Eugene Starne (wife, Diannn) of Joplin; one sister, Naomi Gorman of Independence, KS; two nephews, Victor Gorman (wife, Sheryl), Jeffery Gorman (Lona); one daughter-in-law, Debbie Weaver; nine grandchildren, Nicholas Starne, Tamara Byler, Christy Weaver, Stacy Price, Kolbe Starne (wife, Abby), Nathan Starne, Amanda Oxford, Brandy Beeching, and Wayne Hunt; and 23 great-grandchildren. 

Katherine was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John; her daughter Ruth Mae; her son, John Aaron; and two grandchildren, Taylor and Cathy.
