Jackie Ernest Harns, age 73, of Joplin, passed away on Monday, June 17, 2019 at the Veteran's Home in Mount Vernon, Missouri.
Jackie was born December 20, 1945 in Joplin, son of the late Charles Harns and Lillie Combs Harns. He was one of 12 children, and grew up in Joplin and Galena, Kansas, graduating from Galena High School. He served in the United States Air Force where he was an aircraft mechanic. He returned to Joplin after his service, and worked for years as a mechanic, mainly with the City of Joplin and Atlas Powder, before retiring from Atlas Powder in 1994.
In addition to his parents, Jackie was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn Miller Harns, who passed on January 3, 2010, step-daughter, Regan Halsey, who passed away on December 8, 2010; and eight brothers and sisters.
Survivors include his daughter, Leasa Harns of Joplin; step-daughter, Erin Hulsey of Neosho, Missouri; grandchildren, Donovan Harns and Clorissa Harns; brother, Ronnie Harns and wife Joanne of Kirbyville, Missouri; sisters, Mary Hazelbaker of Joplin, and Helen Bromley; several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be Friday, June 21, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Osborne Memorial Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
