Dorothy Ames

Dorothy Lucille Ames, age 90, passed away at 8:26 am, Sunday, June 9, 2019 at her home following an illness.

Mrs Ames was born December 14, 1928 at Keosauque, Iowa. Her parents were James and Arda (Akerman) Klevins. She had lived in the Joplin area since 1955, moving from Kansas City, Missouri.

It was at a Foursquare Church in Kansas City that he met the love of her life. She married Charles Richard Ames on April 6, 1947 in Kansas City, MO. He survives.

She and her husband actively ministered in churches in Kansas City, and in California before moving to the Joplin, MO area. She last served with her husband in a nursing home ministry. She worked as a nurse aide in St John's Hospital, and in area nursing homes. She later helped care for people as an aide in their homes.








She was a member of Central Christian Center, Joplin, MO. She was an artist, and painted numerous oil paintings and murals. She enjoyed sewing.

Additional survivors include two sons, Robert Ames (Beverly), Carl Junction, MO, and Gary Ames (Karen), Joplin, MO; one daughter, Diana Yeager (Jimmy), Joplin, MO; one brother, Robert Blevins, Northern, CA; two grandchildren, Robert Floyd Ames and Elizabeth Grindstaff, and one great-granddaughter, Stormy Grindstaff.

She was entrusted to Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena, KS for cremation.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM, Thursday, June 13, 2019 at the Central Christian Center Joplin, MO fellowship hall. Graveside service will occur at 11:00 am, Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at Mt Hope Cemetery Atrium, Webb City, MO. Pastor Doug Wilkerson will officiate.
