Fern Grimm

Fern Jo Grimm, 84, of Joplin, Missouri, passed away peacefully at her home on June 16, 2019, after a long illness.

The daughter of Violet Marie Hughes Cornell, she was born on August 10, 1934 in Joplin, Fern Josephine Hunter lived in the area the majority of her life.

Sixty-one years ago, on September 27, 1958, she married the love of her life, George B. Grimm at St. Peter’s Catholic Church Rectory in Joplin. To this union, they had three children. She was a longtime member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Joplin.

Fern Jo was an amazing mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and devoted wife. She and her husband loved to watch their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren excel in life. She retired from Dollar General after 19 years of employment. She was a member of the Lady Elks, Lodge 501 of Joplin, and a member of the Women’s Auxiliary VFW Post 534, also of Joplin.










Surviving her are her husband, George B. Grimm, of the home; daughter, Nanette Clevenger and husband Robbie of Carthage, MO; son, Steve Grimm of Neosho, MO and daughter, Denise Crowell and husband Joe, of Pierce City, MO; sister, Pat Wilder of Joplin, MO, six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her mother and two brothers, George Phillip Cornell and Jerry Leigh Cornell.

A Rosary will be held on Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary Chapel with a visitation following.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday June 20, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Burial will be at Ozark Cemetery following the service.

Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
